in Prism of Life

1. You find 24 hour/day is not enough.

Your are always in a hurry to get your tasks completed.

Your well organised daily scheduler is not much of help, because it often ends up intimidating you. It seem to have a total and complete control over you.

You often feel tired of ticking the checklist boxes. Despite being super busy the sense of accomplishment is eluding you most of the time.

Sometimes you just wish there were more hours in a day…WISH.

“Everybody is a bank account, and time is our currency. No one is rich, no one is poor, we’ve got 24 hours each.” — Anonymous

2. Issues that are important in your life are often getting relegated to the back burner.

That long pending vacation with your kids.

That friend of yours needing your emotional support.

Your nagging back pain.

These issues are never urgent, as a result they often fail to occupy the front page of your life.

You don’t feel the impact of these relegated priorities till it chooses to surprise you at the most inopportune moment. And it hits you like a brick in your face.

Everyday is always going to bring it’s own set of challenges along with it. If you choose to be not prepared with your own list of priorities. Rest assured that you would be so very susceptible to get sucked into those daily challenges .

These daily challenges always look urgent until you choose to treat them otherwise. There is no way you can foretell what’s in store for you, so don’t let the fear of unknown unsettle you.

What is important is seldom urgent and what is urgent is seldom important.” – Dwight Eisenhower

3. Accomplishment of others making you insecure.

You don’t know when you became super conscious about the achievements of your own little brother and the best friend who managed to build a super successful million dollar company.

You choose not to term it as jealousy. But deep inside you always knew that somehow their success made you uncomfortable and insecure, and you never came to terms with this seemingly disgusting emotion of yours.

Comparison is a sure way to sabotage your peace of mind. Comparison is a bacteria that loves to thrive under condition of self doubt, fear of scarcity, and lack of faith. Make sure that you don’t allow these conditions to prevail much longer in your life.

A competent and self-confident person is incapable of jealousy in anything. Jealousy is invariably a symptom of neurotic insecurity.” – Robert A. Heinlein

4. You are no longer enjoying guilt free leisure time.

You are so easily sold to latest trend of productivity hacks that guarantee to transmogrify you into the most efficient version of yourself.

With their latest tricks of the trade you feel supercharged to reach the top of your game…(whatever that means).

As a consequence you start feeling guilty about spending your valuable time on small but leisurely activities like hanging out with your old school friends or paying a surprise visit to your grandmother.

Leisure, is not idleness. It is not even a luxury: it is a necessity, and a necessity of the first importance. Some of the most valuable work done in the world has been done at leisure, and never paid for in cash or kind. Leisure does what it likes: labor does what it must.” – George Bernard Shaw

5. You are still Obsessed with Outcome.

After being sold the dream of an ideal life, you find yourself trapped in the race to achieve those ever elusive quantifiable outcomes.

You want the numbers to tell the story of your life.

However, you simply fail to spot a dichotomy here.

For years I exercised to be thinner, and I never got the results I wanted. When I finally started working out to be healthier, I saw a transformation. I’ve even quit weighing myself so I don’t obsess over the numbers.” – Judy Reyes

6. You got a strong feeling that the world is constantly conspiring against you.

You still find it difficult to spot a fault within. Every obstacle, every failure, and every struggle faced by you is due to external factors.

You are plain and simple unlucky to weather the unfavorable storm.

The moment your external conditions become a bit favorable, you should be on your way to the top.

The central belief of every moron is that he is the victim of some mysterious conspiracy”. – H. L. Mencken

7. Money is still the no.1 motivator for you.

You are still equating success and happiness with money. You get all charged up when you see first opportunity to make good money.

Successful people with loads of money motivates you to replicate their success. You are still looking for that elusive formula to make your share of loads of money.

Money is only a tool. It will take you wherever you wish, but it will not replace you as a driver.” – Any Rand

8. You are afraid to take shots because you are still paranoid about failure.

Psychologist Phillip Zombardo came out with a conclusion that “some people stake their whole identity on their acts. They take the attitude that ‘if you criticize anything I do, you criticize me.’

The egocentricity of these individuals means they cannot risk a failure because it’s a devastating blow to their ego.”

In fact fear of failure is often get manifested through fear of unknown and fear of being judged.

Failure is so important. We speak about success all the time. It is the ability to resist failure or use failure that often leads to greater success. I’ve met people who don’t want to try for fear of failing.” – J.K. Rowling

9. A major chunk of your time is spent in consuming but negligible chunk in creating.

You often forget that a smartphone can be put on an airplane mode.

Your fear of missing out (FOMO) is nothing but an exaggerated imagination manifested due to insecurities.

You always find it difficult to stop your incessant consumption of latest dose of information. The amount of time spent on communication is something that always succeeds in giving you the feeling of being busy.

As a consequence you are hardly left with any time to explore your creative side. The act of creativity becomes the ultimate casualty of this super connected world. And you conveniently choose to ignore this for far too long.

The best way to predict your future is to create it”. – Abraham Lincoln

10. Unable to think beyond self.

You are so obsessed with outcomes that you fail to appreciate anything that doesn’t involve you or your cherished goals.

You simply see the world as a competitive place. Life is a ruthless game where you take everything you want, helping others only if the personal benefit of doing so outweighs the cost.

You still believe that you need to achieve a lot of material success before you could be a philanthropist. More money would make it easy for you.

Till that time there should not be any guilt in focusing on oneself. Any path that does not seem to be leading to your long term goal should be avoided at all cost. In fact you start taking pride in the fact that you are in a ruthless pursuit to reach your goals.

You don’t deserve a point of view if the only thing you see is you.” – Anonymous

11. Persisting with all those habits that need improvement.

You are fully aware of all your bad habits that you always want to kick. Perhaps you are overweight or want to rid yourself of nicotine addiction.

As a first step you have recognized the habits that need to be kicked.

But somehow kicking a bad habit is still hard because you develop a craving for the anticipated reward which happens to be an irresistible by-product of a bad habit.

And that’s where all your ingenuity to manufacture excuses comes at your rescue.

Ninety nine percent of the failures comes from the people who have the habit of making excuses.” – George Washington

We have two strategies for coping; the way of avoidance or the way of attention.” – Marilyn Ferguson

If you still choose to avoid these telling signs, you can’t blame anyone but yourself.
